We are pleased to share with all of you that the NECA Executive Committee has unanimously approved the selection of T. David Long as the Association’s next Chief Executive Officer. Long will officially join the NECA staff on April 1, 2019.
With more than 40 years’ experience in electrical contracting, David currently serves as the President of Miller Electric in Jacksonville, Florida. He brings demonstrated experience in strategic planning and a strong relationship builder, organizational growth, as well as leadership and mentorship of substantial teams. A dedicated NECA volunteer, David has held many roles within the association, including serving on the Board of Governors, Executive Committee and Council of Industrial Relations and most recently as President of the Association.
David has articulated his ambitious future vision for NECA before dozens of audiences, and, after much discussion the Executive Committee ultimately determined that David would be the best choice to lead NECA through these dynamic times.
Founded in 1978, the National Electrical Contractors Association Political Action Committee (NECAPAC) has helped elect scores of industry-friendly members of Congress. The primary NECAPAC objective is to use funds to elect and support members of Congress whose political philosophy or position within the legislature are in support of NECA’s legislative objectives. A secondary objective is to use candidate selection and fund disbursement procedures in a manner that maximizes the interaction of NECA chapters and members with their national legislature.
2018 was the first time that NECAPAC collected more than $1 million in a single year, raising nearly $160,000 more than the previous record in 2015. Political Leadership Council membership increased by 26 members, giving NECA 111 maximum donors for the year. Six additional NECA Chapters met their NECAPAC goals in 2018, increasing the number of PLC Chapters to 51.

Two weeks ago, the Associated Schools of Construction (ASC) held its 32nd annual student competition in Sparks, Nevada. This year, students gave presentations in 12 different construction categories. The electrical program was presented by Rosendin Electric and challenged 10 University teams of 6 people each. The students were provided an existing facility that was being repurposed as a phased Enterprise Data Center. The project, located in Southwestern Region of the United States, was 90% complete with phase one and the students were being asked to provide competitive bids for the second phase – a 48MW deployment, leaving the final 24MW for Phase 3. The Milwaukee School of Engineering took first place, while Auburn University came in second place and CSU Chico took third place.

The Northern California Chapter was chartered as a Chapter of NECA on January 8, 1944. On Saturday, February 2, 2019, members, associates, partners and guests gathered for the Chapter’s 75th Anniversary Gala at the beautiful Blackhawk Museum. Guests were welcomed by a string trio while they socialized and explored the museum exhibits. Executive Director Greg Armstrong offered some interesting tidbits about the Chapter’s history – offering special recognition to long time members Brayer Electric Company; Collins Electrical Company, Inc.; Niles Electric Company, Inc.; Napa Electric Shop; Red Top Electric Company, Inc.’ and Morrow Meadows. Mr. Armstrong also took the opportunity to present Long Electric with a 25 year membership plaque. Chapter President Greg Long welcomed attendees and introduced special guest National NECA President David Long who presented the Board and Chapter with a plaque in honor of the Chapter’s 75th Anniversary.
