Codes and Standards Committee
The Northern California Chapter, NECA’s Codes & Standards Committee is intended to advance the cause of electrical safety and help improve the quality of electrical construction. The Committee dedicated to providing a monthly forum where electrical contractors, IBEW members and building official/inspectors are exposed to current code practices, education, news and events. These activities help ensure that NorCal NECA and its member contractors are viewed as the industry leaders, not followers.
A proud highlight of the Codes and Standards Committee is their responsibility to award annually a $1,000 W. Creighton Schwan Scholarship. The scholarship was established in 2007 in memory of the late W. Creighton Schwan who dedicated his life to the electrical industry. His career in the electrical industry spanned more than 60 years, beginning with his work as an electrician in the Army Air Corp during WWII. Creighton eventually settled in the San Francisco area and contributed to the area as an electrician, an electrical contractor and eventually, an electrical inspector. He was a 50-year member of IAEI and a 65-year member of the IBEW. Electricians and inspectors benefitted immensely from his knowledge, quick wit, practicality and good-hearted commitment. W. Creighton Schwan was a great person to know, a good colleague, generous mentor and graceful writer who helped generations of electrical contractors, electricians and electrical inspectors sharpen their Code knowledge and improve their professionalism.
The Committee meets every third Tuesday of the month, excluding June – August and December, starting at 5:00 PM.
