WORKSHOP: Understanding Construction Accounting

About this Course: An understanding of construction accounting is essential for the success of your business. This course covers topics such as revenue recognition methods, the components of contract costs, how to calculate revenue earned, balance sheet accounts that are unique to contractors, and key financial ratios for contractors.
Following this course, participants will be able to:
- Calculate job costs
- List components of contract costs
- Give examples of methods to measure percentage of completion and revenue earned
- Explain how to calculate financial ratios
Target Audience: Business owners, executive level management, project managers, superintendents, CFOs, Controllers and bookkeepers.
About the Instructor: R. David O’Brien, CPA, CGMA – Dave has a wealth of experience in assurance and accounting, primarily focused on the construction industry, with emphasis in real estate, manufacturing and distribution. Among his clientele are general, mechanical, electrical, flooring, sheet metal, fire protection and numerous other contractors, as well as homebuilders and commercial and land developers. A graduate of California State University at Chico, Dave worked for large firms in Reno and Toledo before joining Mosely Glick O’Brien, Inc., as Partner. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Society of Certified Public Accountants in Ohio, Nevada and Michigan, and is affiliated with the Construction Industry CPAs/Consultants Association (CICPAC) and the Construction Financial Management Association (CFMA).
