NorCal NECA/IBEW Local 595
Joint Safety Committee
Safety First = Family First
The NorCal NECA / IBEW Local 595 Joint Safety Committee meets on the last Wednesday of the month, with the exception of December. The committee advocates safe work rules that are equal to or greater than the Standards of Construction as established by OSHA, with quarterly virtual Safety Training to help educate current trends and issues. The Alameda and Stockton LMCC’s provide funding for two committee members to attend the NECA Safety Professionals Conference and the IBEW Safety Caucus held annually.
The Joint Safety Committee holds an Annual Safety Poster contest in conjunction with the IBEW Local 595 Picnic, where young and old use their artistic talents to illustrate the spirit of safety through drawings. Awards are presented to winners in four age categories and all artwork submitted is used to produce the Safety Calendar, with funding provided by sponsors.
The Safety Excellence Awards program, formerly known as the Marv Jensen Safety Award program, was introduced in 2013 to recognize safety excellence demonstrated by NorCal NECA members and IBEW 595 electricians and technicians on IBEW/NECA projects. Awards are presented at the IBEW Local Union 595 Volunteer Appreciation Night in December for Commercial, Residential, Industrial and Sound & Communication project types.
Mission Statement: The duties of the committee shall be to adopt and recommend safe work rules that are equal to or greater than the Standards of the Construction as established by the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970. We, as a committee, boldly acknowledge and encourage the use of more stringent safety rules to promote and strengthen a more productive work force, while protecting the health and safety of all employees and their families.
