Developing Personal Leadership
Our world has changed. Today, every manager is expected not only to be an effective leader, but also a coach and mentor. Most of us are more comfortable on one side or the other in the leadership/management scale. Balancing the skills between leadership and management is the focus for all managers and leaders today. It is important to examine the balance between what we are doing today vs. what we are leading others to do. How can we identify and leverage our leadership style to be the best we can be in order to get the best results for ourselves and our organization? In this session, we examine the lessons we have learned about leadership and the beliefs we form as a result of those experiences. We identify the Five Drivers for successful leadership. We identify the roles and responsibilities of a successful leader and realize that our opinions and ideas about leading others shape the environment in which we work.
Completion of this module will empower participants to:
- Recognize differences between leadership and management, and their related drivers for success
- Describe leadership experiences and values
- Conduct an “Innerview” to open the lines of communication and build trust
Achieving Organizational Results
If, as leaders, we are responsible for the environment and also for the processes that produce economic results, then it is critical that we identify where people and processes meet in our organization. In this session, we chart processes and the people who support them. We identify points of interface with other departments, vendors, suppliers and customers. Time utilization is key. We review the fundamental tools for effective time management, identify priorities, and discuss how to keep our focus on the balance between people development and economic results.
Completion of this module will empower participants to:
- Recognize today’s business reality
- Overcome obstacles to time management
- Conquer the tyranny of the urgent
- Set time utilization goals
